LIC grant received from GEDC

Snowmobilers riding north to Nakina this winter will notice substantial work has been done in the Nakina to the Greer Road section of trail. Through an L.I.C. grant from the Greenstone Economic Development Corporation in the amount of $4005.00, portions of the trail have been widened, and straightened out, to improve the overall enjoyment of the rider. This funding is much appreciated by the Nakina Sno Club, and has made these upgrades possible.

John Magee Honoured

On Nov 23.09 John Magee was presented with a plaque by Gaby Boulanger VP of the NOSSA “North of Superior Snowmobile Association” district 16.

This plaque is in appreciation of the many years of dedicated volunteer service that he has provided to the Snowmobile Association across northern Ontario.

Although John does not own a snowmobile, it did not stop him from lending a hand to maintain the trail systems we have in our area and making sure that they conform to the OFSC standard. Whether it was signage, brushing of the trail, or staying up to the wee hours of the night just to make sure the groomer operator made it home safely, John’s devotion was unspeakable!

Countless hours were spent over his years as President of the Kenogamisis Fish and Game Sno club travelling to the district meetings. These meetings are held once per month in various communities across the north of superior. John always made sure that the club’s voice was heard, and even in times of heated debate he always maintained a strong level of professionalism and integrity for the association.

After some 25 years of being involved with the Kenogamisis Fish and Game Sno Club, John has hung up his skates. He looks forward taking advantage of his newly found free time, and spending more of this time, enjoying the presence of his grandchildren.

NOSSA, along with the Kenogamisis Fish and Game Sno Club will greatly miss his presence, and wish him well with his future endeavors.

Volunteerism gives you a great sense of personal satisfaction. Don’t be afraid to lend a helping hand, talk to one of your local volunteer clubs today!

Greenstone Sno Clubs Receive LIC Grant

Through Greenstone Economic Develop Corporation, The Nakina Sno Club was successful in their application for a $ 5000.00 LIC Grant (Local Initiatives Contribution). The application was initiated by the Nakina Sno Club identifying the Longlac and Geraldton Clubs as partners.

This continuing signage project will highlight the approval by OFSC of the new designation of the Longlac to Nakina and Nakina to Geraldton trails as TOP trails (Trans Ontario Provincial). The signage will improve awareness of users and promote more traffic utilization of the Greenstone Snowmobile Loop. The new destination signs will inform snowmobilers of distances and directionality between Longlac, Geraldton and Nakina.

The addition of new banner signs to our existing billboards (which depict details along the Greenstone Loop), will improve visibility and better promote snowmobiling in Greenstone as a significant tourism asset.

Our organization's mandate is to:

- sustain and enhance safe snowmobiling, enjoyable snowmobiling experiences within Greenstone while supporting the continuity of the OFSC trail system, AND

- to ensure that our area clubs continue to co-ordinate activities enriching tourist / travellers experiences for snowmobilers.

Snowmobile Club Volunteers Wanted

The Greenstone Snowmobile Clubs are looking for volunteers to help with the various trail maintenance activities this winter and are looking for people to take positions on the snoclub executives. Volunteers are important to our local clubs to keep our amazing trails in top condition all winter long. Without volunteer support there would be no clubs in our area.

Last winter the Greenstone Area attracted hundreds of snowmobilers from across Canada and the United States with our excellent trails, great hospitality, amazing snow conditions and hard work from the volunteers at each snoclub. Snowmobiling is becoming a important part of winter tourism in the Greenstone Area. Keep these snowmobilers coming back to our area each winter and the benefits will be felt by all in our communities.

You can volunteer: An hour, A weekend, A couple of evenings a week…

ANYTIME YOU CAN!!!

Every bit of volunteer time is greatly appreciated by all who use the trails throughout the winter.

Keep our local clubs alive. Contact your local club for information on volunteering!
